Newtown undone by first half goals

17/02/2018 @ 05:42

Newtown suffered a 2-1 reverse at home against Barry Town United in the JD Welsh Premier.

All the games came in the opening 20 minutes, with Nick Rushton equalising for Newtown after the South Walians had taken the lead.

But what turned out to be the killer goal was scored soon after and despite some decent possession, the Robins couldn’t find a leveler.

But football took a back seat this afternoon when Welshpool Town’s Spar Cup match with Brecon Northcote was abandoned.

An Air Ambulance was required to get a Northcote player to hospital due to a serious injury, with the game immediately abandoned.

However, there was plenty of action on Saturday with vital wins for different reasons for Guilsfield and Caersws in the Huws Gray Alliance.

Guilsfield won 4-0 at struggling Llandudno Junction to stay in the title hunt, while Caersws eased their relegation woes with a tremendous 1-0 win at Flint Town United.

In the Spar Cup, there were wins for Berriew, Llanfair United and Carno.
