“It’s between Llanidloes and Berriew”

Ahead of what could be a big match in deciding the destiny of the Spar Mid Wales Division One title, one rival club is either being pessimistic or entering into the Alex Ferguson world of mind games!

Leaders Berriew take on a buoyant Llanidloes side which has become firm contenders following a tremendous run of results, but the side that sits in between them, Llanrhaeadr, has been ruled out of the title race by its own assistant manager who believes that the backlog of fixtures will catch up with his threadbare squad.

“I honestly believe it is between Berriew and Llanidloes after seeing the fixtures they have piled on to us,” said Jamie Davies. “We have got a small squad and a lot of older players so if we were to get it then it would be an incredible achievement.”

Llanidloes travel to Berriew 11 points behind the leaders but with three games in hand. A win would put them second, with Llanrhaeadr currently just two points ahead. However, Llanrhaeadr have five games in hand on Berriew and will clock in some serious hours of overtime in the next four weeks.

“It’s going to be a very busy time for us,” said Davies. “At the end of the month we play Berriew on a Tuesday just two days after playing Aberystwyth University. It’s a little unfair because Berriew have a Friday night game that same weekend giving them two more days to recover. We’ll just have to get on with it and give it our best shot.”

Berriew v Llanidloes kicks off at 7.30pm, Friday.
