No goals as Robins draw

23/09/2017 @ 09:19

There were plenty of chances but ultimately no goals between Prestatyn and Newtown in the JD Welsh Premier League.

Prestatyn had the better of the game early on, with Jack Kenny going close. Luke Boundford then went close for Newtown twice in three minutes, first on 19 minutes when he headed a Craig Williams cross over the bar, then on 22 when his shot from six yards out was smothered by Carl Jones in the Prestatyn goal.

Kenny went close again for the home side on 24 rounding David Jones only to see Kieran Mills-Evans clear his shot off the line. Jamie Reed then had a good chance for the visitors on 33 but he headed wide from Williams’ corner.

Into the second half both sides again had chances, Maher volleying over before Boundford and Kenton went close for Newtown. Nick Rushton had a chance late on but stumbled when through on goal, before a succession of Prestatyn corners in injury time failed to lead to a goal.

Caersws needed a win at Gresford in the Huws Gray Alliance and when Rhydian Davies and Luke Sherborne put them 2-0 ahead all looked good. But Gresford levelled before half time through Aaron Edwards on 36 and 41 minutes.
And there was agony for the Bluebirds when Owen Roberts struck a 90th minute winner for Gresford.
Llanfair won the Welsh Trophy showdown against neighbours Carno. Llanfair made home advantage pay in a 3-1 win while Berriew went through 3-0 at Llandrindod. Llanidloes won 3-1 at Dyffryn Banw
