We’re not a one-man team

Berriew manager Neil Pryce says any one of five clubs could threaten them yet for the Spar Division One title, but he warns his rivals not to write off his team’s goal scoring ability after losing their chief goal getter.

Will Thomas (right) has been in blistering form this season, providing the goals that have helped Berriew open up a nine point gap at the top.

But a nagging ankle injury has ruled the striker out for the last four games... but you may not have noticed especially after the eight-goal cup haul the Rhiewsiders bagged at the weekend.

“Will’s ankle doesn’t seem to be healing anytime soon, so we will have to make do without him for the next few games as well,” said Pryce. “But we’ve won our last four without him which shows we are not a one-man team and have players who can step up and score goals. But obviously he makes a big difference when he is the team.”

Berriew have played more games than their closest rivals, particularly Llanrhaeadr who will go above them if they win their matches in hand, but the rookie boss has not ruled out a number of other sides who are making second-half charges up the table.

“Llanidloes have become as big a threat as Llanrhaeadr,” he said. “But there is a long way to go and I would not rule out Carno nor Llansantffraid yet.”

Big Division One matches will come thick and fast in the title chase, and they won’t come much bigger than this Friday night’s encounter between Berriew and Llanidloes under the Berriew lights.
