Gareth Ashley and Shaun Davies are the Newtown Premier League of Darts Pairs champions for 2017.
In his first season in NPL, Davies has taken a title emulating his partner Ashley who won the singles in his first season in 2015.
Ashley and Davies beat Jamie Kynaston and Mark Layton by 4-2 in the final on a night when history was so very nearly made.
Earlier on in the night Steve Degville and Chris Hurds were a pair in fine form when Degville started with a maximum 180 followed by his partner Hurds hitting a maximum 180.
With the perfect nine dart leg now possible as the crowd became silent as Degville then hit treble twenty, then treble 19, only for his last dart to clip the outside of the double 12.
Ironically the pair went on to lose the leg.
This Friday will be the penultimate week to the league with some of the players aiming to qualify for finals night on 7 October at the Monty Club.
