Bluebirds put bad run behind them

Caersws have been in freefall for the past few weeks but they put their problems to one side to dent Cefn Druids' championship hopes in the Huws Gray Alliance yesterday.

The Bluebirds put their run of poor form behind them with a 1-1 draw against high flying Cefn Druids with Geraint Lewis snatching a 77th minute equaliser after Tom Obasi had put Druids ahead.

Guilsfield boss Russell Cadwallader warned his players that they were not too good to go down before kick-off and his fears were evident as they crashed 5-0 at Porthmadog.

There was little hint of what was to come as Porthmadog went in at half time with a 1-0 lead thanks to Rhys Roberts, but the former Welsh Premier League side ran riot in the second half. Gareth Jones-Evans netted on the hour but it was not until the 89th minute that former Welshpool striker Paul Roberts made it 3-0.

And before Guilsfield could recover Rhys Roberts had the ball in the net again and with the game deep in injury time Paul Roberts completed an unlikely rout.

Montgomery came a cropper in the Central Wales FA Cup. The Spar Second Disvision hot shots were brought down to earth at Carno, losing 3-0 while Llansantffraid Village booked a quarter final slot after winning 4-3 at Rhosgoch Rangers.

Berriew's hunt for a Spar league and cup double gathered pace with a thumping 8-2 Cup win over Llanfyllin. Shane Davies bagged four, Martin Ziemann got two and there were further goals for Marc Jones and Ian Jones.

Dyffryn Banw won a tough local derby 1-0 over second division neighbours Llanfair United to advance. Llandrindod Wells won 3-1 at Abermule, Dolgellau put four past Aberaeron, Tywyn Bryncrug beat Tregaron 4-1 and Aberystwyth University won 3-2 against Builth Wells.

In Division One, Waterloo lost a seven-goal thriller at home to Bow Street and Llanrhaeadr closed the gap at the top by winning 2-1 at Newbridge.

In the second division, goals from Gaz Jones (2) and Ian Jones put Four Crosses back on track after they won 3-1 against Bont, while Meifod grabbed a rare point with a 2-2 result at Talgarth.

Llanrhaeadr Reserves are through to the quarter finals of the Emrys Morgan Cup. The villagers proved far too strong for Churchstoke, winning 4-0.
