Kelly nominated for FAW Award
Kelly has been selected after successfully winning the competitive regional FAW and McDonald’s Community Award ‘Volunteer of the Year’ category in the Central Wales region.
The People’s Award, which is now in its sixth year, gives the public a chance to show their appreciation for a local hero by crowning them national champion. Kelly has already been recognised at a regional level for her contribution to football in Powys and will join five nominees from across Wales who have beaten the competition to be shortlisted.
Berriew FC Juniors have been the beneficiaries of Kelly’s hard work for five years.
During her time volunteering at the club, she has seen the number of girls’ players increase to a total of 50 with teams at Under 10s, 12s & 14s. Starting next season, the club will boast girls’ teams at all age groups up to Under 16s.
Kelly’s love for football has seen her take up committee roles at two leagues – the Powys Girls League and the Mid & North Powys Junior Football league – as well as putting her efforts into assisting local primary schools with coaching programmes encouraging more youngsters to play the game.

The winner, who receives the highest number of supporting votes, will be announced at the 2017 Community Awards ceremony at Cardiff City Stadium on September 2.
