The rebuilding job at Latham Park continues with manager Chris Hughes announcing the signing of experienced Haelsowen Town skipper and midfielder Jay Denny.

After training with the Robins in their first pre-season season session at the weekend, Denny's transfer from the Northern Premier League side was completed yesterday.

The 31-year-old first signed a professional contract at Stoke City, before departing for Shrewsbury Town in 2005, where he made 18 appearances, scoring two goals.

Following his spell with the Shrews, he began a successful career in non-league football, turning out for Brackley Town and Nuneaton, before his first spell with Halesowen in 2007, where he played 98 times.

After a brief spell with Leamington, he re-signed for Halesowen before going on to make over 100 appearances for Hednesford Town. He had a long spell with Solihull Moors, before returning to Halesowen in 2015 and becoming captain of the side.

Chris Hughes approached the experienced midfielder in January, however Denny decided to stay put and successfully fight off relegation with his side.

He has now opted for a new challenge, and Hughes is pleased to have added the midfielder to his squad.

Hughes said: "We've been looking at Jay for a while, he brings real quality and experience in the centre of the field and that is something we've been targeting.

"He slotted in really well in training on Saturday, and he is someone who we feel can improve the squad."
