More long Division Two away days

Spar Division Two sides face the prospect of travelling to Aberdyfi, Machynlleth and Knighton next season.

League officials ran the rule over the three applicants last month and have revealed that ground facilities meet the criteria to step up to Mid Wales football.

However, league secretary Phil Woosnam has explained that – as is the case with the Welsh pyramid system - the promotion issues are not clear cut.

“Generally they would need to finish in the top two of their respective divisions but it all depends on how many vacancies there will be,” he said. “And that depends on how many local clubs come down from the Huws Gray Alliance.

“In the cases of Aberdyfi and Machynlleth who play in the same league, it may mean only one comes up and in Knighton’s case, they are not likely to finish in their top two so would have to rely on a vacancy appearing to fill. There is still a lot for these clubs to play for to guarantee promotion.”

Aberdyfi and Machynlleth have applied from the Cambrian Tyres League whilst Knighton are the only applicants from the Mid Wales League South. There were no applicants from the JT Hughes Montgomeryshire League.
