Robins ready for play-offs

Nick Rushton’s hat-trick helped a relentless Newtown crush Aberystwyth Town and continue their fine run ahead of the Dafabet Welsh Premier League play-offs.

Rushton, Stef Edwards and Ryan Kershaw all scored in the first period, and despite an early Aber backlash in the second half, the Reds kept on coming.

Luke Boundford found the net, and Rushton scored twice, with Sion Ewart grabbing a late consolation.

Llanfair lost 2-0 at home to Guilsfield but with Mold suffering a similar scoreline at home to Holywell held onto 13th place and can now only hope they have avoided Huws Gray Alliance relegation.

Rhayader were surprisingly beaten 2-1 at home by Berriew but still clinched the Spar Mid Wales League championship with Carno failing to beat Llandrindod in a 1-1 draw. Carno now need two points from their remaining two fixtures to clinch runners-up spot.

Churchstoke reached the ER Jenkins Cup final by beating Borth 4-2.
