Big weekend of rugby action

Newtown Rugby Club resumes league action this weekend with a long trip to Bangor.

Having slipped up to an improving Bangor side last season, coach Derek Murray will be keen to avoid a repeat but he has been hit by a couple of injuries since their last outing, a 25-20 away win in Wrexham last Friday evening.

No.8 Tom Bucknall’s season looks over with a shoulder injury, whilst centre Ashley Evans, just back after a collarbone injury, now looks set for weeks on the sidelines with knee ligament damage. Despite that, Town now have some depth in their squad and go to Bangor in good spirits, keen to build on their victory in Wrexham and push for a strong finish to the season.

Meanwhile, Newtown 2nds travel to Rhayader for a Mid Wales Cup semi final clash.

After the disappointment of a heartbreaking last minute winning try for COBRA last time out, the Green Army will be looking to the Cup as their last realistic chance of silverware.

Rhayader have proved they are no mugs however, with victory over a strong Trefyclawdd side a few weeks ago, and Town will need to be on top of their game. Team Manager Bob Jones picks from a largely unchanged side, with the addition of strong running centre Greg Keily returning two matches out.
