Bluebirds buoyant for Llandudno trip

Caersws will hope to throw their stuttering Huws Gray Alliance title hopes some much needed momentum this weekend with a trip to the North Wales seaside.

Mike Evans takes his side to Llandudno, boosted by last weekend’s return to form against Ruthin and knowing their hosts don’t like Montgomeryshire opposition.

Llandudno have come unstuck against Welshpool and Guilsfield this season and Caersws will be hoping for more of the same. Richie Evans will come into the midfield after suspension for the absent Geraint Lewis but otherwise the side will not be much changed to last weekend.

It’s been a strange month for Technogroup Welshpool boss Chris Herbert which sums up the club’s fortunes this season as a whole.

Just three weeks ago, The Lilywhites looked dead and buried at the foot of the table and the manager was forced to release four players that had become surplus to requirements.

But as his side hosts title contenders Rhyl tomorrow, he is back down to the bare bones but his chargers have since become one of the most feared units in the league, despite propping up the table.

“Yes it’s been an eventful time,” admitted the boss who was annoyed that they didn’t get anything from the midweek 2-1 loss at Cefn Druids. “We were very unlucky not to get something out of the game, but we just can’t start as bad as we did because a side with the quality of Druids will punish you. But second half there was only one side in it and we missed four good chances.”

His squad is decimated by injuries to Gary Pinch (calf), leading scorer Lee McElmeel (hamstring), John Dowridge (thigh) and in form striker Nathan Mapletoft (back), but the boss isn’t feeling sorry for himself.

“This will give lads that have been on the bench a chance to show that they are up to the job. I signed these lads because I know what they can do and it’s their time to grab the chance with both hands,” said Herbert, who described Rhyl as the best he’s faced this season.

Guilsfield, meanwhile, are in buoyant mood after their first league win since October in midweek and are hoping to record their first home league win of the season.

There are injury doubts surrounding Chris Roberts (thigh) and Tom Coulson (knee) but Adam Jenkins comes into contention for the match with Cefn Druids.

“It won’t be easy because they are a good side but we will go into the game with a lot more confidence,” said Cadwallader. “We still looked edgy when we conceded late in midweek as we have been undone by bad luck and late goals this season but the win was well needed and a long time coming!"
