Manager Andy Cale said his side committed footballing suicide in the 4-4 draw with Haverfordwest on Saturday.
But Cale says he must shoulder some resposnsibility after his substitutions backfired.
The Robins charged into a four goal lead with what Cale described as 'probably the best hour's football produced by any team I have managed.'
But the following half hour was a horror show as Newtown committed defensive suicide to let Haverfordwest snatch the most unlikely of draws.
"We played unbelievably well for an hour," said Cale. "We were brilliant and technically right on the button and the game should really have been over.
"But we lost Lee Hartshorn through injury and the substitutions I made didn't work out so I have to shoulder some of the responsibility.
"But no side should recover from being 4-0 down and defensively we went to pieces."
Cale though was also quick to praise Haverfordwest. "They showed fantastic resolve to come back from 4-0 down and it was a superb game of football to watch if you were a neutral observer."
