Forden pull off Sunday Cup shock

Forden Utd sprang a bit of a surprise on their Abermule hosts by beating them 4-1 in the first round of Newtown Sunday League's  Simon Jones-Evans Cup and earned themselves a quarter final visit from the favourites, Crown Inn.

The Forden scorers were David Baines (2), Nick Roberts and Chris Proctor.

In the other first round game, there was a very tight contest at Llanidloes where the Elephant entertained Red Lion, Caersws and eventually lost 6-3.

It finished 2-2 after the end of normal time, and then the Elephant took a 3-2 lead, but it did not last as the Red Lion soon equalised and added three more to finish comfortable winners. Scorers were Danny Lloyd, Matt Jones and Luke Jones for the Elephant, whilst the winners scored through Lee Evans, Neil Evans (2), Ryan Jehu, Paul Jehu and Chris Morris.

There were also two quarter final games played with a right trouncing for the visiting Churchstoke side, who went home 12-0 from their visit to Elephant Wanderers. Goals went to Stephen Parrotte, Sam Jones, Cliffy Lawson (2), Jamie Grainger (5), Leon Williams (2) and Davey Jones.

The other quarter final involved the Angel Welshpool and Grapes, with the Angel coming off the back of a surprise defeat the week before; they bounced back this week, with regular goalscorers, Luke Weaver (2) and Stuart Buckley-Robins netting for them in their 3-0 victory.
