Chairman says Newtown good enough to survive

Newtown chairman Mike Jones says the team is good enough to survive after the first game in the newly split Welsh Premier League ended in a 4-4 draw.

The chairman has been impressed with performances since the transfer window opened and is confident that Andy Cale's new look side will be strong enough to get clear of the relegation zone.

"We really are in unchartered territory where clubs will now play each other again, home and away," said Jones.

"Relegation from the Super 12 would be traumatic as funding would cease and make it almost impossible to attain a Domestic License to play in the WPL.

Promotion and relegation is a pre-requisite of a healthy league and it cannot operate in isolation.

"It really is time to winning games and climb the table. We are good enough so lets get on with it."
