Decent day for local clubs

Guilsfield’s hopes of closing the gap on the Huws Gray Alliance leaders were dashed at title chasers Caernarfon.

Former Llanidloes hitman Jamie Breese was among the scorers as the North Walians ran out 5-1 winners. Andy Ford had earlier pulled one back to 2-1 for the Guils.

Two goals in the last two minutes gave Llanfair Caereinion a point that never looked likely when they were trailing 2-0 at home to Conwy Borough. Luke Gethin and Andrew Hughes were the goalscoring heroes.

Caersws dropped off the pace after going down 1-0 at home to Gresford Athletic.

In the Spar Mid Wales League, it’s looking grim at the bottom for Montgomery and Welshpool who lost to Carno and Llanidloes respectively to stay equal bottom on three points in Spar One. Berriew were frustrated 2-2 at Llandrindod Wells and Llanrhaeadr were beaten 5-3 at Radnor Valley.

In Spar Two, Kerry kept the press on at the top with a 3-0 win over Presteigne while there were away wins for Abermule and Churchstoke.

Newtown are in action on Sunday against TNS.
