Newtown throw away four goal lead

19/02/2011 @ 08:34

Newtown amazingly threw away a four goal lead in their quest to secure their Welsh Premier League future to share the points with fellow strugglers Haverfordwest.

Leading 4-0 with an hour gone the Robins looked home and dry but a goal followed by a double substitution signalled an amazing recovery by the South Wales side.

Robbie Millinton (27) and Matthew Cook had Newtown sitting pretty at the interval and when Millington struck again after 52 minutes and Steve Jones added a fourth five minutes later the Robins looked to have the job done.

But Jack Christopher hit back on 60 minutes and  the arrival of Lee Hudgell and James Dixon signalled an amazing finish. Christopher struck again on 74 minutes and Hudgell marked his arrival with a goal a minute later. Dixon snatched an unlikely equaliser on 85 to signal a frantic end to the match

Caersws bounced back in the Huws Gray Cymru Alliance after last week's humbling defeat at Flint by beating Ruthin 4-2.

Ruthin stunned the Bluebirds by rtaking an early lead through Arron Aby after 11 minutes but Mark Griffiths replied for the villagers on 26 minutes. Former Welshpool striker Aden Shannon then gave Ruthin the lead again after 41 minutes  only for Graham Evans to net from the penalty spot on the hour.

Matty Davies struck on 83 minutes and Geraint Lewis completed the scoring three minutes from time to give Caersws a valuable win.
