Edkins and Richards win Swans Cup

The Swans Cup which was played at St Giles Golf Club in weather more accustomed to ducks was won by the pairing of Rhys Edkins and Will Richards who combined brilliantly in tough conditions to post 100.5 to take the coveted title.

Second place went to Alan Jones and Andrew Stanley who scored 105.5 whilst Ian Jones and Daz Ballantyne finished in third with 107.5.

St Giles hosted a charity fun day in aid of Cancer Research which saw the club raise a fantastic £1,413 for the worthy charity. The main competition was a Texas scramble team of four which was won by Alan Porter, Neil Lewis, Chris Halling and Martin Stephens who carded 54.4 and won a round of golf at the Celtic Manor Resort.

Jonathon Williams, Rhys Jones, Andrew Jones and Cliff Jones finished second with 55.6 whilst Gary Edkins, Rhys Edkins, Gary Rimmer and Alan Williams finished in third with 58.

The Ladies hosted their annual open which saw a great turnout and some great scores. Winning the main competition was the pairing of Nicky Jones and Gail Roberts who dovetailed brilliantly to score 41 points.

Kay Humphreys and Anna Hubbard finished in second place at the expense of Pam Lewis and Diane Pugh who lost in a card playoff after both teams shot 39 points whilst Julie Davies and Betty James finished in fourth place with 37 points.

The Seniors competed for the Betley Trophy which is played in honour of the club’s former steward and stewardess, Joyce and the late Bob Betley. Winning with a fantastic score of 40 points was Gwyn Griffiths whilst John Cufley finished in the runner-up birth with 38 whilst two stalwarts of the club, Tegwyn Lloyd and Benny Rimmer finished in third and fourth respectively.

This Saturday is the J.T. Hughes (Honda) August medal with tee-off times at 9.0 a.m. and 1.0 p.m.
