Rebecca Richardson continued with her fine form in Round 8 of Hafren CC’s time trial series.

Held on the 11. 5 mile course in Newtown, Richardson was 10th overall and first home in the Women’s race with a sub 30-minute ride (29:26).

Emma Serjeant’s 34:48 gave her second, less than a minute ahead of third placed Louise Downward (35:46). Jackie Harris and Sahrah Wilding battled it out for fourth and fifth with just two seconds separating them.

Bryn Davies returned to winning ways with 26:22, edging the consistent Ian Nisbett into second (26:55) with Pete Thomas claiming the last podium spot with 26:56.

Meanwhile, Round One of the freewheel grass track league got underway last Friday with 44 riders from a number of clubs providing a great’s night racing in Welshpool.

The juniors and youth riders kicked the evening off on a shortened oval in the ‘flying lap’, scratch and elimination races. Of particular note was the large turnout in the U8′s category with 14 riders taking to the start line and showing promising signs for future of cycling in our area.

Next up were the adults who tested themselves on the 400m oval. In a new format for 2016, riders were split into two groups in accordance with their times in the flying lap, which worked well and led to some exciting racing in both groups. The highlight was the longest lap and the evening was topped off by the elimination race.
