The introduction of Super 12 has seen the Welsh Premier's average attendance boosted by more than 22% to 338 at the halfway stage, the league's best-ever figure - but Latham Park crowds are down by 17%.
On a like-for-like basis, comparing the fixtures played this season with the same in the last campaign, the increase is only 9%. But, that average of 309 is still a big improvement on the 277 that watched the same fixtures in the 2009/10 campaign. Newtown crowds dropped from an average of 251 to 209, with six other clubs also seeing attendances down. Leading the way are Neath, where the presence of Trundle, O'Leary and company has seen gates at The Gnoll rise by a staggering 172% to an average of 601, peaking at 921 for the visit of Carmarthen Town. Bangor City's impressive start to the campaign has produced a 65% increase in gates at Farrar Road to 754, the league's highest average. However, seven clubs have seen gates fall under the new format. Attendances at Bala Town's Maes Tegid have slumped by 27%, with Llanelli seeing 24% less through the turnstiles at Stebonheath Park and Newtown's poor form bringing a 17% decrease at Latham Park.
