Steph Hughson, 18, from Nantmel has been named in the U19 Welsh Netball squad following successful trials. Steph will now train with the squad in preparation for the Netball Europe U19 Championships later this year.
The Coleg Powys student plays for Rhayader Ladies Netball Team and is in the British Colleges team. She is also in line for a place in the Celtic Junior Dragons team, who compete in the Co-operative Netball SuperLeague.
Steph is a regular in the Powys netball team. Margaret Nuttall, Netball Development Officer with Powys County Council, said: "I’m thrilled that a Powys player has achieved selection to the U19 Welsh Squad. I’m sure all our netballers wish her good luck for the remaining training and that she makes the final squad for the Netball Europe Championships representing Wales.
"We are particularly proud of her achievement as Stephanie has played for the county team at every year of the age groups so far in the Welsh Netball Inter-Area Championships - the only person to have done that."
Steph is also a talented football player who is enjoying her second season with the Wales U19 ladies team. She also plays for West Bromwich Ladies Football Team.
