Crowd safety concerns cancel school meet

04/02/2011 @ 11:18

A public meeting at Llanfair Caereinion High School to discuss education modernisation plans has been temporarily postponed amid concerns over crowd control.

The decision by Powys County Council follows the raising of safety concerns by the headteacher due to the expected high turnout. The meeting was due to take place on February 16 but will now be rescheduled for later in the consultation period. This will give time to the council to address the heads’ concerns.

“Clearly this is not an ideal situation,” commented Councillor David Jones, who is Board Member with responsibility for schools with the council. "However, these concerns have been raised and we need to address them."

He added that separate meetings with staff and pupils in the school would continue as planned.

Cllr Jones added that the public would, as a result, have extra time to study the proposals in the Consultation Document, which is available via the www.powys.gov.uk/schoolmodernisation webpages.

Mynewtown will publish the new date as soon as they are released by Powys County Council.
