Storm Imogen has caused damage and disruption to the area with the Hafren entertainment venue damaged by high winds.
Heavy rain is causing flooding throughout the Severn Valley.
The Met Office says Yellow weather warnings for high winds and heavy rain will be in force until at least 6pm tonight.
Motorists and residents are being urged to take care and stay indoors if possible with storm force gusts of wind battering the area, causing debris to be blown and strewn across roads and pavements.
Areas of the Severn Valley are already flooded after heavy rain throughout yesterday and overnight as well as again today.
In one incident, panels on the outside of the Hafren entertainment complex in Llanidloes Road, Newtown, part of the NPTC college campus, have been blown off.
Forecasters say the weather should improve later today, although remaining windy and wet.
