A Montgomeryshire man has been selected to as a candidate for the May Dyfed Powys Police and Crime Commissioner election.

Richard Church is a former member of a police authority and lives in Welshpool.

He has been selected as a candidate for the Liberal Democrats.

Following his selection, Richard Church said: “Dyfed Powys Police area has the worst record in Wales for the numbers of people killed and seriously injured on the roads per 1,000 of the population."

“If elected I will make saving lives on our roads a top priority, and that means ensuring the police work closely with local communities, local councils and the Welsh Government to tackle dangerous roads and promote safer driving.”

“At the moment, our Conservative Police and Crime Commissioner is invisible to most people. He is the top six of the most expensive Police & Crime Commissioner offices per head of population in the UK, and now wants to take more power by taking over the fire service.

“I want to cut the costs of the Police Commissioners office, invest in front line policing and move towards scrapping Police and Crime Commissioners at the earliest opportunity.”
