Students to tackle risk of cancer

03/02/2016 @ 10:22

Students in Newtown are to host a health awareness day next week as part of World Cancer Day.

The young people from NPTC Group’s Newtown college campus will host the event to make fellow students and young people aware of the risks of getting cancer.

One of the students involved, Kerri Bundy, said: “As a group of Level 3 Health and Social Care students we have organised a health promotion day. We chose to tackle World Cancer Day but with a different kind of awareness. As individuals of the younger generation we feel that we needed to target individuals of our own age on the risks held to us of getting cancer.

“We are tackling different types of cancers. These are breast, testicular, oral, skin and cervical cancer. During the event we will have many different activities, games and information available on the day.

“This includes a variety of information about the different charities in the UK who can be there for an individual if they need them. We would like to see so many faces at our event in order to make it very successful and to have fun for all. It will be a jam packed day of non - stop fun and awareness.”

The event will be held in the Hafren theatre bar and will take place between 10am and 2pm.
