Plans have now been submitted to Powys County Council's planning department for a brand new skate park and play area for the Newtown area.
Councillors and young people in Newtown who have been campaigning for a Skate Park are looking forward to start date in early spring.
Newtown County Councillor Russell George who was involved in securing the funding for the skate park welcomed the news and said
“This has been a long journey for campaigners for these facilities and the recent bad weather caused a small delay but we look forward to work beginning soon”
“Plans have been submitted to Powys County Councils planning department for a brand new skate park to be built on land at the entrance to Trehafren Fields, behind Newtown Police Station.”
“The skateboard and BMX area itself will cover 420 square metres and will include steps, rails and benches with a variety of slopes. Currently young people congregate in the park grounds in an area which is not safe. This project will allow them to play in a planned safe area.
“When I become a councillor I asked people what was important and facilities for children and young people was high up the list. The play area will be for all ages, young children with parents up to Adults who also use these types of facilities”
Ezra Jordon who was part of a young peoples group set up to decide the final design said “The plans look really good and I’m looking forward to being able to use it”
Councillor George went onto say, "People can also have there say on the proposed location though the normal planning process”
