Work begins on new KFC development

Work will start in earnest this week on the new KFC fast food restaurant development in Newtown.

Contractors have already set up at the former Co-Operative and CF Foods site opposite the town's McDonald's restaurant and work will start on the demolition of the building before a new bespoke building is erected.

Welshpool-Abased Gastronomy Foods are developing the site as a franchise holder for KFC. They have other KFCs in Oswestry and throughout North Wales.

The site had recently been used by local workers as a free car park, but the site was closed off last week and demolition equipment has been brought in.

Newtown Powys County Councillor Joy Jones welcomed the start of work.

"It's good to see a new business expanding into Newtown, bringing new jobs and opportunities," she said.

The business is expected to be open early in the new year.
