Hit and run just minutes after moped purchased

30/06/2015 @ 01:11

A motorist whose car collided with a moped that had just been bought and taken out of a showroom is being sought by police.

The accident happened earlier this month but police have been unable to identify the driver of the car which hit the moped as it crossed the Pool Road traffic lights into Kerry Road.

A witness only noticed “56” in the registration plate of the car and that it was a woman driver who failed to stop after the accident which happened at around 10.30am on 17 June.

“A white coloured Honda PCX moped was hit by a motor car as the moped was travelling across the junction into Kerry Road, Newtown,” said PC Louise Cook of Newtown Police.

“The registration number of the car had a ‘56’ in and the driver was a female.

“Although no injuries were sustained to the rider, damage was caused to the moped which the rider had just purchased moments earlier.”

Anyone who witnessed this collision is asked to contact WPC 972 Cook at Newtown Roads Policing Unit by telephoning 101.
