Town welcomes walk hero Nigel

The people of Montgomery turned out in force yesterday to welcome home their walking hero Nigel Picken.

The Town Mayor and Town Crier fronted a reception in Broad Street for the local man as he completed his 1,050 mile trek around Wales in aid of Cancer Research.

Nigel was overcome by the support but said the important thing was that money was still coming in.

"The important thing is the money is still coming in via the JustGiving page. 

"I'm so proud of that and grateful to the people who have donated.

“The walk has long been something that I have wanted to attempt as walking is my passion, and hopefully this way, it will help to raise some money and awareness for a very worthy cause.”

Nigel has stressed that every penny donated will go to Cancer Research Wales .

“None of the funds have or will be used to finance the walk in any way.

"I camped under the stars or stayed in B&B’s which were self-financed. This is a great chance to help the fight against cancer.”
