Newtown soldier and singer Dan Edmunds is in need of your support as he enters the final stages of the latest part of his aim to get a Christmas record deal.

MyNewtown has reported on Dan's hope of winning a national music competition with the prize of a record deal with the chance of a top 10 hit later this year after being selected for the UK's Brand New Artist 2015 competition.

This week he is ranked 13th in the national competition but needs your help to get to number 1 in this phase of the competition.

Dan, 26, from Newtown and who is a Corporal with the Royal Signals based in Cheltenham, is no stranger to the national music competitions having reached the regional finals of the Open Mic competition last year.

Now he is hoping his hometown will support him through the next stage of the Brand New Artist 2015 competition which has a £100,000 record deal and a chance of a top 10 Christmas hit as its prizes.

And as well as the competition, Dan is aiming to raise money for a colleague who is about to undergo a major brain operation. Rosie Fuller works for the RAF and is having a brain tumour removed.

"It's been a bit of a whirlwind as I've been in the top 10 and dropped a bit to 13th but I'm hoping friends and the people of Newtown will help me get to number one.

"I appreciate all the help I've had so far and hope people will get back behind me," he said.

Dan is one of 50 artists in the competition after getting through the first stage of 100. His competition page can be found at http://www.brand-new-artist.com/dan-edmunds/

The second round ends on 31st May and then 25 will go through to the finals and be part of a compilation CD.

The act with the most votes will be crowned the winner and part of a campaign to top the charts this Christmas.

Dan is a solo acoustic artist and was recently described as "Ed Sheeran meets the Kooks."

He has been writing his own music for over six years. In Cheltenham he won the St Paul's "Battle of the Buskers" competition last year.

His debut EP release "Tell Your Friends" can be found at https://soundcloud.com/dan-edmunds.

"I'm raising money for Rosie, a young lady in the RAF who I work with on a daily basis and who is about to undergo brain surgery to remove a brain tumour. People can donate money at www.justgiving.com/roseruddy," added Dan.
