Newtown Musical Theatre Company (NMTC) have again been nominated for several prestigious awards by the National Operatic and Dramatic Association.

Leading the way is NMTC stalwart Mike Clarke who has been nationally recognised for his portrayal of the miser Ebeneezer Scrooge in their 2014 production of A Christmas Carol.

He has been nominated in the ‘Best Individual Performance Wales & Ireland Region’ – but this is not the first time he has been nominated for this award.

He was actually nominated and eventually won this same award for his portrayal of Fagin in NMTC’s critically acclaimed production of Oliver in 2009.

Mikesaid: “Obviously, I am thrilled to be nominated, but the real thrill was taking on the role of Scrooge, a fantastic part to play."

This is not the only nomination for the company.

Two of its previous productions (South Pacific and A Christmas Carol) will fighting it out for the 'Best Production' accolade with South Pacific also being nominated for 'Best Technical/Stage Management’ and also 'Best Standard Programme.’

Individual cast members have also nominated for awards by NODA and they will find out their fate at their national awards next week in Hereford.

In the category for 'Best Individual Performance' both John Bowen (Emile de Becque) and also Julie Breakwell (Bloody Mary) in South Pacific were nominated alongside Mike Clarke as Scrooge in A Christmas Carol.  Jill Robinson has also been nominated for a 'Special Achievement Award'.

Chairperson, Les Skilton said: “We are really proud of each show we put on, but to be recognized by people within the industry is something we are all very proud of. We strive to ensure all audiences who come to our shows are highly entertained and leave the theatre with a smile on their faces.”

NMTC are currently rehearsing for their next production, the musical HMS Pinafore, to be performed at The Hafren, Newtown, later this year  (1st, 2nd and 3rd October).

The production will be directed by Mike Clarke who will be assisted by first time Musical Director for NMTC, Paul Wardell.

"Anyone interested in performing, helping back stage, publicity, costumes,  chaperoning - in fact anything to help with the smooth running of the show, please send an email in the first instance to newtownmtc@hotmail.co.uk and someone will get back to you," said theatre spokesman.
