Students help the needy with Easter boxes

Students from Newtown's NPTC Group college campus have been busy collecting items for Easter ShelterBoxes which will be sent to the needy around the world.

The boxes contain some vital supplies and could help save the lives of people in crisis, according to the college.

"The group put together household products and health and hygiene items as well as toys and clothing which will all be put to very good use for those who need it most," said a spokesperson.

The boxes were presented to Rotarian representative, Rod Evans, from Llanidloes Rotary Club when he visited the learners to tell them about ShelterBoxes.

Rotary International and ShelterBox have been project partners since 2012.  In as much, the Rotary network offers ShelterBox global fundraising and logistical support, undoubtedly saving many lives every year.

Rod explained to the learners how ShelterBoxes are used in emergency situations all around the world, providing emergency shelter and other vital supplies and support to communities who may be overwhelmed by disaster.  The talk came at a poignant time in light of the crisis caused by Hurricane Pam this week.

Llanidloes Rotary Club fundraise to provide Shelter Boxes for vulnerable people all over the world.

Offering important survival equipment, including water purifiers, mosquito nets and thermal blankets among other vital items.  These are often paired with tents which are distributed by the Disaster Relief team.

 Rod also spoke with the Gateway to Further Education group who are continuing in their efforts for fundraise towards future ShelterBoxes, with each box costing £540.
