Students take to YouTube to promote sixth form

Students from Newtown have taken to social media site YouTube to promote their sixth form as a place to study.

The initiative has been backed by teachers at Newtown High School who are undertaking a recruitment campaign in the area.

It comes as Powys County Council continues to look at sixth form provision in north Powys as a part of a review of secondary schools expected in September this year.

"We wanted to highlight the opportunities our Sixth Form can offer to young people in our area," said a high school spokesperson.

"The initiative, led by the students themselves, features a short film outlining the wonderful learning pathways on offer. Current Year 12 and 13 students have created and starred in this production which also features testimonials to some of our former students."

The school said each year approximately 90 per cent of its Year 13 students go on to further studies.
