Village Post Office to move

The Post Office has today revealed it is to transfer Caersws Post Office to the village's Spar store.

The move comes despite the Post Office admitting that in a public consultation there was concern about access to and space in the store for the Post Office.

The current Post Office is run privately at Bridge Street.

It will close on 23rd March and the new Post Office will open at the Spar store on Tuesday, 24th March.

Last year the Post Office revealed the owner wanted to close the business and the Spar was identified by them as a possible location.

A consultation began in November, asking the public to comment on the planned move which will see longer opening hours as part of the new style of local Post Offices being rolled out.

"We received a small number of comments from customers and local representatives during the local public consultation period," said Adrian Wales, Regional Network Manager for the Post Office.

"The feedback was mainly in support of the move, with comments welcoming the longer opening hours and central location.

 

"Additionally, some concern was expressed about access into the proposed store and the availability of space inside for Post Office customers. 

"This feedback helped me to understand customers' concerns and t make sure that all such information was taken into account before finalising our plans."

He said the move was part of a branch modernisation programme.

The current Post Office manager was asked is she wanted  to stay with the network.

It is understood only the Spar was considered as a location for the new Post Office in the village and it was not opened to tender or for interested parties to come forward.

"The processes we follow are established and robust to be fair to all applicants and the new operator was successfully appointed following completion of our application process," added Mr Wales.

Post Office transactions will take place at the same location s retail sales within the store.
