Emergency services are preparing for one of the busiest nights of the year as the annual "Mad" Friday gets underway in Newtown.
Police have already said they are stepping up visible patrols and are prepared to ban people from areas of the town if they are causing trouble as part of new laws they have. The Welsh Ambulance Service is also on standby to deal with any injuries or to treat those in need.
Pubs in the town will start to get busy at lunchtime as many business close and police are expected to step up patrols this afternoon and into the early hours of tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the police are also stepping up check points for drink drivers. Patrols are expected along roads in the town and surrounding communities to undertake random stops for breath tests this evening and tomorrow morning, as well as over the next week and into the New Year.
It's part of an annual clampdown on drink drivers, even those who are getting into their cars the next day after a night out.
Earlier this week a spokesperson for Newtown Police said they hoped the vast majority of revellers would enjoy their night out and issued some advice to ensure they get home safely. They launched Operation Gallant as part of their Christmas safety drive.
They said that while the majority would have a good night and festive weekend, there would be some who would spoil it for others as a result of being drunk.
