Flood warnings issued around Newtown

Flood warnings have been issued along the River Severn near Newtown, Caersws and Abermule after heavy downpours overnight and during the past few days.

Tributaries into the river have been overflowing leading to river levels reaching 2.8 metres at Caersws at 11.40am today and 3.79 metres at Abermule.

 Flood warning are in place for both locations.

 It was at 2.8 metres in Newtown.

Meanwhile land throughout the Severn Valley from Newtown to Welshpool has already bene submerged with some livestock moved for safety. 

 And while the sun has been coming out, water levels are expected to increase all day.

Rail services between Newtown and Aberystwyth and Pwllheli have already been hit with bus services replacing these so far today.

Motorists have been warned to take extra care with surface water and local flooding affecting lanes and B-roads in the area.
