Three men and a woman have been arrested by police on separate drugs offences after police found a large amount of a Class A drug and seized cannabis plants.

The arrests took place in Newtown and Welshpool involving three men and a woman, all of whom have been bailed pending further inquiries.

"Police at Newtown and Welshpool have arrested three men and one woman for separate drugs offences within the last two weeks," said a Dyfed Powys Police spokesperson.

"The men have been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of Class A and cultivation of cannabis.  A large amount of a substance believed to be a Class A drug has been seized along with three separate seizures cannabis plants.  These seizures are substantial."

Inspector Darren Brown said police would not tolerate drug misuse and urged people to contact them if they had any suspicions of people dealing in drugs in the area.

Inspector Brown said: “These arrests once again show that police in Montgomeryshire are committed to dealing positively with drugs offences in the area.

We will not tolerate drugs misuse  and encourage members of our communities to report any suspicions to us so that we can deal with individuals and groups rapidly and effectively.

"We don’t have a major drugs problem in the area, but there are a minority of people who will continue to use drugs and this can have an impact on crime and anti-social behaviour in the area.

"Quality of life issues such as drug and alcohol misuse and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated and we will endeavour to deal with these issues proactively with our partner agencies to improve the quality of life for our residents."

He added: "If you have suspicions, or any information relating to drugs misuse in the area then please report them by telephoning 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
