02/01/2011 @ 09:21

One of the outstanding chamber ensembles of our time returns to Gregynog Hall on Friday, January 21, for a concert to launch the 2011 Gregynog Festival programme.

The renowned Alberni String Quartet, who have toured to all parts of the globe, will play an evening of chamber music starting at 8pm in the famous Music Room at Gregynog Hall.

This intimate setting is the perfect environment in which to enjoy the Alberni’s programme of three Quartets by Haydn, Mozart and Schubert.

The concert is the traditional curtain-raiser for Wales’ oldest classical music festival and is always an extremely popular date in the Montgomeryshire music calendar.

Seats can be booked in advance by telephoning the Festival Box Office on 01686 207100 and any remaining tickets will be available at the door on the night. Admission is £10 for adults and £2 for young people aged 18 and under.

Following Gregynog Festival’s highly successful 2010 season, which included a showcase at the Lincoln Center, New York City, as part of the Welsh Assembly Government’s Wales Week USA, the 2011 season will run from June 17 to July 3.

This year’s programme has been created on the theme of Gold and headline artists will be announced for the first time at Gregynog as part of the January 21 concert.
