Exclusive: Radio Maldwyn saved!

22/12/2010 @ 11:55

Mynewtown can exclusively reveal that Radio Maldwyn has been saved and is set to be re-launched under the new name of Radio Hafren in the New Year.
The station’s new owners have asked us to issue the following statement to our readers:
“On December 13, the shareholders of Radio Maldwyn Limited, resolved to wind the company up because it was insolvent, and appointed Irwin Insolvency of Sutton Coldfield as the liquidator.
Rather than seeing the area lose its local radio station, we decided that we would put in a bid for the assets and licence, of Radio Maldwyn.
On December 15 we were told that our bid for the station had been accepted by the liquidator, and that they would begin the process of transferring the assets of the company, subject to the agreement of both Powys County Council who own the studio and transmitters, and Ofcom who need to approve the transfer of the licence required to broadcast.
Thanks to the help of Powys County Council who have hurried through the lease process, we hope to be in a position to sign a lease for both the transmitter and studio on Thursday morning.
We are still in the process of dealing with the licence application, however we are unlikely to have any news on this before Christmas, because Ofcom will be shutting down for the Christmas holiday on Thursday this week and will not be in a position to deal with our case fully until January 7 at the earliest.
We will continue to work on our plans over the Christmas break, and believe that we can be on air within 48 hours of being granted a licence.

We hope to have quite a few nice surprises for the listeners when we are finally on air, and would reassure everybody that we will still continue to provide a quality local service for the residents of Montgomeryshire.”
