Radio Maldwyn set to be saved?

17/12/2010 @ 11:02

Mynewtown understands that a buyer has been identified for the defunct Radio Maldwyn and the station could be back on air soon.
Earlier this week, shareholders agreed to send the station into liquidation and interested parties needed to make themselves known by Wednesday night.
Yesterday, frantic negotiations were being held with one of those parties and an announcement is expected soon.
The news will please the station’s band of loyal listeners, including Newtown County Councillor Russell George who was also one of its original shareholders.
“I have spoken with Gerald Irwin of Irwin & Company this afternoon (appointed liquidators), and they have informed me that they have now agreed a buyer (subject to contract and Powys County Council agreement),” he said.
“The buyer is a local group and Irwin & Company informed me that the group would like the station to be kept local, with full local content and presence.
“As the owner of the building and transmitter is Powys County Council, they will have a final say on whom they lease the buildings to.”
