Hundreds without water in Newtown

Hundreds of Newtown households are without water tonight.

Residents of Vaynor have contacted mynewtown to complain that they have been without water since 8.30pm and have been unable to get through on the jammed Severn Trent phone lines.

Town Mayor Cllr Joy Jones lives on Vaynor and said: "Yes we have been without water and a lot of people are concerned but we are unable to get through on the Severn Trent lines because they are busy. I have been waiting to get through for the last 30 minutes."

Temperatures tonight have dropped to as low as -8 in some parts of the Newtown area.
