Youngsters provide a helping hand

Newtown has once again shown its community spirit by backing an initiative organised by the Newtown Police Cadets.
Twenty-one elderly residents, who are likely to spend the Festive Season alone, will receive an early Christmas present on Saturday, when the cadets deliver hampers that have been filled with essentials donated by local businesses and individuals.
PC Jenna Darby is the Police Beat Manager of Neighbourhood Management in Newtown and has been working with colleagues and the cadets this week to prepare the deliveries.
“The donations received have been overwhelming,” she said: “Due to the generosity of those who have donated food items we can easily deliver 21 full hampers which will hopefully provide essentials for those who may struggle to get out or afford extra items over Christmas.”
The cadets will deliver the hampers in person with officers from the Neighbourhood Management Team and their initiative has been supported by Tesco, Lidl, Morrisons, Harry Tuffins, Spar, Pryce Jones and other local stores, as well as donations from police officers at the station.
