Llanfair to light up Christmas

Llanfair will get into the Festive Spirit tomorrow night (Friday) when a spectacular firework display will launch its Christmas celebrations.

Music, street entertainers, the Christmas parade and a fancy dress competition are just some of the features that will accompany the switching on of the Christmas lights.

Some of the roads into the town centre will be closed from 6pm but are expected to re-open again by around 7pm. Parking will be stopped from 5pm. Montgomeryshire MP Glyn Davies is expected to switch on the lights.

The evening starts with the fancy dress competition at the Public Institute, with judging at 6pm. It’s free to enter and there are prizes for the winners. All entrants can then walk in the grand parade.

The fireworks display is prior to the switching on of the Christmas Lights at 6.30pm.

The grand parade through the town will be led by the Town Crier, Geraint Peate, with the Snow Princess following on her float with her attendants.

Father Christmas, accompanied by his elves and reindeer and with other Christmas characters on foot, will spread festive cheer through the crowd with a stilt walker, fire-eater and juggler providing entertainment.

The Public Institute, with free admission, is open providing festive refreshments as well as craft and Christmas gifts stalls, produce and organic foods, Christmas wreaths, floral art, tombola, toys and competitions, and the grand Christmas draw.

There will be no parking on the town’s streets from 5pm.
