Rumours of Lembit engagement

Former Montgomeryshire MP Lembit Opik, 45, is believed to have popped the question to his 21 year-old girlfriend Merily McGivern.

Lembit has been in limbo since his early ousting from the ITV show I’m a Celebrity last week and was spotted ring shopping with Merily for rings in Tiffany & Co in Australia’s Surfers Paradise (right).

Merily was seen trying on a diamond encrusted band on her wedding ring finger before later walking out of the store, arm in arm with Lembit, holding onto a little blue Tiffany’s bag. She refused to tell photographers what they had bought.

Westminster blogging sites took up the story this weekend, particularly ‘Guido Fawkes’ which prides itself on being accurate and breaking news on political figures.

It was noticed by current Montgomeryshire MP Glyn Davies who quipped last night: “If Guido is to be believed, (and he usually is) it seems that congratulations are in order. It’s not been a great year for Lembit, and I suppose I've played my part in that. But I rather like him and wish him well, both in life and love - so I was pleased to see this photograph.”

Lembit was the second star to leave the ‘I’m A Celeb’ camp, after spending 14 days in the jungle. If the rumours are to be believed, it will be the third time that Lembit has been engaged following previous relationships with Sian Lloyd and ‘Cheeky Girl’ Gabriela Irimia.
