Police ‘prioritise’ as weather tests resources

02/12/2010 @ 03:50

The local police force has been stretched to the limits over the past week and has been forced to prioritise their attendance to incidents.
The weather has dramatically increased the force’s workload and with the bad weather showing no sign of lifting, it has placed a strain on the hard-working team.
A police spokesperson said: “It’s been very busy particularly with collisions and stranded motorists. The demand on our resources has been significant and we have had to prioritize attendance in accordance with need.
“Our advice is to think about whether you really do need to make the journey. Allow plenty of time. Always ensure that you tell someone your intended route. Ensure that your vehicle is fit for the demands placed on it. Ensure you have warm clothes, a mobile phone and torch with you.
“As well as causing a significant demand on the emergency services, breakdown companies also become inundated with calls for assistance and it may be some time before you receive assistance if you become stranded, be prepared as you may be stuck for some time.”
