A council adoption service says it is "urgently looking" for people to care for children in the Newtown area.
A project to encourage more people to adopt is being launched with a series of information days this week.
The first session was held at the Bear Lanes shopping centre in Newtown on Tuesday.
Other events will be staged in Machynlleth on Wednesday, Tesco in Llandrindod Wells on Thursday and Co-Op in Ystradgynlais on Friday.
Powys council's adoption service said it was "urgently looking for families" to care for number of children including siblings, toddlers and older children.
Adoption team manager Karl Sephton said: "Don't think that we will turn you down because you are aged over 40, don't own your own home, already have children or are not in a relationship.
"What we really need are people who can offer a child or sibling group a loving and supportive family for life.
"Initially, we are simply asking people to come forward and find out more about adoption."
