Crowds pack town's Jubilee celebrations

The crowds turned out in force this afternoon for Newtown's Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

High Street was packed with stalls and people and a live stage with music and entertainment while the Proms in the Park kicked off in the Town Hall grounds.

"It's a great atmosphere and we're hoping everyone's having a great time," said one official from Newtown Carnival Trust which organsed the events in the Town Hall Grounds, while Newtown Chamber of Trade organised the street party in High Street.

While the rain started to fall part the way through the afternoon, most people brought brollies and coats and have been soaking up the atmosphere.

The event will carry on until 8pm in the Town Hall grounds with a range of live music and family activities brought together by a range of organisations and individuals.
