Town prepares for Jubilee party extravaganza

Plans are well underway for tomorrow's Diamond Jubilee celebrations in Newtown with the Proms in the Park and a street party.

Newtown Carnival Trust and the town's Chamber of Trade are hosting a range of family fun activities starting at 2pm with live music, stalls, competitions and much more in the Park and in High Street.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) is just the start of a week of events leading up to Saturday's carnival.

"With Her Majesty's 60th Diamond Jubilee Newtown will come alive with the Proms in the Park. A variety of music from 2pm until 8pm, with many other activities for the youngsters and a family street party on High Street in the afternoon. Throughout the week there will be a treasure hunt, fun race, football matches and much more," said John Whittaker, Chairman of Newtown Carnival Trust.

Musicians taking part in tomorrow's Proms in the Park include Pogal Wood, Jackie, New Charleston Footwarmers, Alex Davies (as seen on Britian's Got Talent), Andy Patten, Trensetts, Misty Blue Trio, Nuclear Weasels, String the Marionette and Kay Davies.

In High Street the Chamber of Trade are showcasing the best of British, Welsh and Newtown with stalls, fun activities and competitions. Everything starts at 2pm.
