A week of Diamond Jubilee and Carnival celebrations is planned for Newtown next week.
Newtown will be getting into the Diamond Jubilee celebrations on Tuesday, 5 June before the annual Newtown Carnival weekend takes place on Saturday, 9 and Sunday 10 June.
The Jubilee celebrations kick off at 2pm in the Park on Tuesday with a variety of live music and fun activities for the family with a Proms in the Park. There will also be a Jubilee Street Party in High Street in the afternoon. The carnival celebrations have been organied by Newtown Carnival Trust, while the street party is being organised by Newtown Chamber of Trade, inconjunction with the carnival and Newtown Town Council.
The street party will showcase the best of British, best of Welsh and best of Newtown.
Musical groups taking part in Proms in the Park include Pogal Wood, Jackie, New Charleston Footwarmers, Alex Davies, Andy Patten, Trensetts, Misty Blue Trio, Nuclear Weasels, String The Marionette and Kay Davies.
Throughout next week there will also be a range of events taking place throughout the town leading up to Newtown Carnival. Wew'll bring you more details on Carnival Day next week, except to say get your costumes ready and take part in the town's annual spectacular which sees the main procession starting off from Lower Canal Road at 12.30pm on Saturday, 9 June and a whole day of fun and activities at the Park afterwards.
