All Wales cooking finals held in Newtown

28/05/2012 @ 07:28

Newtown's Coleg Powys has been the venue for the All-Wales Youth Cooking competition.

Teams from all over Wales competed in teams of up to four people, with each team producing a two course meal. Following the regional heats held all over Wales, competitors came from as far a-field as Cardiff and Caernarfon to compete in the final. The maximum age of those involved was 16, and despite their youth the teams certainly lived up to the challenge, according to organisers.

The competition was judged by Coleg Powys catering lecturers Tony Burgoyne and Mandy Carter.

Tony Burgoyne said: “We were impressed by the excellent teamwork, communication skills, the modern and healthy cooking and methods and the locally sourced Welsh ingredients. Students promoted their work bilingually. It was a successful competition and it was nice to see young people taking an interest in cooking and improving their skills and knowledge”.
